DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY
Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Life is complex, especially for those who experience emotions very strongly. Developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan in the late 1980s, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a type of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), was initially intended to treat individuals with borderline personality disorder and those suffering from emotional dysregulation. Today, its application has expanded to treat various disorders, including depression, eating disorders, addiction, and anxiety.

At its core, DBT blends cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices derived from meditative traditions.

DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY

DBT at SISU Integrated Health is not a one-size-fits-all. We personalize each session, understanding that every individual’s journey is unique.

Mindfulness cultivates a focused awareness on the present moment. At SISU, we guide individuals to become more present in their daily lives, aiding in recognizing and coping with powerful emotions.

We help with distress tolerance. Instead of fleeing from distressing situations, patients are taught to tolerate and accept them. SISU ensures that each individual can navigate challenging emotions without feeling overwhelmed.

Emotion regulation is an important component of DBT. Our experts at SISU guide individuals in identifying and labeling emotions, decreasing vulnerability to negative emotions, and increasing positive emotional experiences.

Through DBT, SISU empowers individuals with tools to communicate their needs, set boundaries, and handle conflicts assertively and respectfully.

If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, we can help. Get in touch with SISU today and start your journey to addiction recovery.
